The Berkeley Tennis Club offers U.S.P.T.A. tennis lessons throughout the year. Along with nationally known Director of Tennis Lynne Rolley, the BTC also has Gold, Silver and Bronze Ball winner Kim Lackey and former UCLA Varsity Player Jim Landes on the teaching staff. Lessons are availabe privately or in groups for all ages and abilities to fit the needs of enthusiastic students of the game.

BTC Head Tennis Professional Lynne Rolley brings 35 years of teaching and coaching at every level. Her extensive resume includes Junior National Championships and top ten National rankings in singles and doubles. Lynne has held Tennis Director positions at Sleepy Hollow and the Moraga Country Club and has been Head Coach for the St. Mary’s Men’s Tennis Team and the Oakland Aces of World Team Tennis. Until recently, she was the Director of Women’s Tennis for the United States Tennis Association and has worked with Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Lisa Raymond, Chanda Rubin, Alexandra Stevenson, Ashley Harkelroad and Mike Bauer among others.

BTC tennis professional Kim Lackey has been teaching at the Berkeley Tennis Club since 2003. She has 25 years of teaching /coaching experience which includes High School, Jr. College, Public Parks and Private Clubs alike. Formally the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Diablo Valley College and an award’s recipient of the Wilson / ITA, Jr. College Coach of the Year. Currently, Kim competes in the USTA / ITF National Senior Circuit in both singles and doubles. Kim specializes in adult teams, clinics and private lessons. Jim Landes played tennis as a youth on Long Island and later played tournaments and became a ranked player in his teens and went on to play varsity tennis at UCLA. Jim is a natural born teacher who has given lessons throughout most of his adult life. Jim is the Chairperson of the BTC's Junior Development Program and has a wealth of knowledge to impart to players young and old.

The 2008 SPRING Junior Development Program

The Berkeley Tennis Club’s 8 week 2008 Spring Junior Development Tennis Program aims to reach all levels and ages of children and young adults in teaching tennis in a fun and challenging atmosphere. Nationally known Tennis Director Lynne Rolley will offer their expertise in overseeing all sessions. Beginning April 7, 2008 (through 8 weeks) there will be programs targeted at different ages and abilities.

Jim Landes is offering a new doubles clinic for 3.5 and 4.0 male players (together) on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. The clinics will be 4-week sessions and cost $100 for members and $120 for non-members. Each class will have 8 players taken on a first come-first serve basis.

The clinic will cover all aspects of doubles including court positioning, recognizing offensive and defensive situations and how to react, poaching, serve and return of serve options, coordination with your partner, etc. We will drill and play practice matches.

The 3.5 - 4.0 doubles clinic taught by Jim Landes on Thursday nights will begin its second session on Thursday, May 1st from 6:30-8:00pm. Drop-ins are welcome.
